Chicago, data & public policy, vegan, dreams of proportional representation via STV.
How is this unethical. Please explain how it is unethical to make this information public. Ethical governing is not strict adherence to rules when those rules conflict with basic ethical principles.
NEW: The Chicago Board of Ethics fined ex-Inspector General Joe Ferguson $5,000 for violating the city’s ethics law by divulging a confidential report that found officials could have stopped a plume of dust from enveloping Little Village when crews demolished a former power plant. @wttw.bsky.social
Former Inspector General Joe Ferguson Fined $5K for Revealing Botched Little Village Smokestack Implosion Could Have Been Prevented
Inspector General Joseph Ferguson, who paid the $5,000 fine, said that while he was disappointed by the board's decision, he had no regrets about his decision to divulge the confidential report.

If you don’t think the offenses are serious enough to warrant a prosecutor’s time then maybe idk they shouldn’t be felonies?

But seriously though this is bad policy. A felony gun offense that the prosecution later drops can still seriously mess up someone’s life.
new: cook county state's attorney eileen o'neill burke is expanding a program that allows chicago cops to file felony weapons charges without prosecutor review.

under the new "expedited felony review standard," chicago police citywide can now directly file unlawful weapons possession charges.

“We had to give the dictator what he wanted so that we could protect a super-majority requirement in the world’s least representative legislative body” is a wildly anti-democratic statement.

Neither the US senate nor the Democratic Party has proven itself capable of preventing tyranny.
Heaven forbid the Republicans get rid of the filibuster…

Someone should let CPD know this because they basically said “we can’t do shit if the feds are on the clock” at their budget hearing.

Pretty sure it’s No. 3. Where I’d put my money at least.
Ellis "It may be that what I am seeing is the result if one of three things:"
1. Perhaps the order is unclear
2. No one read the order
3. "Folks actively chose to ignore it"

Ellis said it could not be No. 3, because that would violate Bovino's oath

My internet had been out the entire day with xfinity's site reporting an outage. I call, get outage message plus "an agent will not be able to help you solve this issue faster." It hangs up. I call again get it to let me chat with someone via text. The agent made my internet start working again.

Immigration law is like this too - some insanely racists cases that aren’t themselves directly cited are nonetheless where some of the crazy shit still being used today came from.

Cook County & Chicago both use Dominion election systems and I imagine this is not a welcome development. I’m concerned. www.axios.com/2025/10/09/d...

If you’re a Democrat who feels this way, you should endorse proportional representation!

Let the left have our own party and then the voters can decide.
NY Democratic congressman Tom Suozzi says "Zohran Mamdani and every other Democratic Socialist should create their own party because I don't want that in my party."

Let’s do this.
I think Illinois can and should sue Texas in the Supreme Court’s original jurisdiction and seek a preliminary injunction against the use of any un-federalized Texas National Guard troops in Illinois.

Why this matters: the biggest immediate threat to our communities right now remains the alphabet boys, who have *already* told us their plan to unleash Border Patrol. And while JB can conceivably put up a fight against the TX Guard coming, no local elected can stop the feds.

Please understand this.
Deleted a RT of a reporter’s summary of JB’s comments about the Texas National Guard. This is what was actually said.

Again, even <if> the Wizards in Robes do not again desecrate the Constitution on this, every single one of these "national emergency" and "national security" loopholes, written into law during the Cold War, by both parties, need to go. They are simply incompatible with our current politics.
This. Section 740 of the Home Rule Act. IEEPA. Section 232. Every single one of these things needs to be rewritten or repealed. They are giant, aircraft carrier-sized loopholes through which a far right authoritarian party can empower a Mad King & destroy the Republic. They have to all go.
Once again, the imperial presidency, created by both parties during the Cold War, by passing laws allowing the POTUS to act like a king simply by using the magic words “national security” or “national emergency” w/o evidence, was a grave mistake, & if we make it through this, it must be dismantled.
