Connie Marrero lived to 103. What we can glean from this is that the secret to a long life is to be a Cuban pitcher on the 1950s Washington Senators.

Nice, they.played in Calgary in 1984 when I was 3 and didn't come back til 2005 for around the sun tour. It was a weird show with the new stuff annoying the crowd who just wanted like out of time etc, but I was stoked to see my favourite band. They did Pilgrimage as an encore and I lost my mind.

As per tcdb this is his only piece of cardboard. 1992 high liner fish sticks Stanley Cup champs 1917 Seattle Metropolitans.

I remember his bowman rookie card being worth a bit(like 10 bucks ish) during his initial call up. I think he had a bit of a Maas-ian start to his career and a cool backstory.

Yup, Kirk McCaskill purportedly dressed for a playoff game with the Winnipeg Jets, but didn't take the ice.

Tried to find a WHA crossover of some kind but only found Jack McCartan who played for US national team in both hockey and baseball and later played in WHA. Rocket Richard played a bit of pro baseball in 1947 and later coached Nordiques in 1972.

A few faves, it's been a good year for my collection.

Yeah, I agree, if he was healthy and hitting, it wouldn't matter, but the contract went so badly that the failure became easy to blame it on his attitude and "lack of caring" rather than the number of injuries that piled up.

My Mark Smith memory is attending the final Cannons home game ever and yelling at him in right field trying to get him and position himself according to the hitter. I was doing it to amuse my friends by being an idiot, but eventually he listened and moved a few feet lol.

Calgary Cannons legend. Slim chance I saw him pitch live in 1992

No, don't think an actual quote exists haha. Just the emails like you said. Papelbon lumped him in with JD Drew as guys who hated showing up to the park everyday. Am kinda in awe that you could get that good at baseball without it being your 100 percent passion/commitment.

Fascinated by the cognitive dissonance required to become an MVP candidate while hating playing baseball. Like there is a path to get drafted signed etc while hating it (ie sports dad forcing you) but to become a star is just astonishing. Also appreciate honesty of saying I only do this for money.
