Mollusks from 'Testacea utriusque Siciliae eorumque historia et anatome' by Giuseppe Saverio Poli. Parmae: Ex regio typographeio, 1791-1827.

I saw this at the Joseph F. Cullman 3rd Library of Natural History, Smithsonian Libraries and Archives in Washington DC.

I've been collecting pandemic era signs that nobody can be bothered to take down or remove. There's something grimly fascinating about this. Putting them up was urgent and important; removing them is nobody's job. How long will some of these hang around?

In some other news, I got to present a bit of my PhD research at a national conference last week! (25th ENANCIB). My title was "Musealia, museality and musealisation: the possible application of Museology's specialty language to special collections in libraries". Here's a photo:

Kinda late, but I'd like to congratulate the people of NYC on electing Mamdani. A breath of hope and fresh air. I hope he's an excellent mayor!

Hi friends! Does anyone know of any library in the UK that is called a "Library & Museum"? Similar to The Morgan Library & Museum in NYC. Thank you!

Also a worthy thread:
I'm going to finish listening to other historians before I make up my mind about this, but in the meantime, I'd like to list the steps that I (and helpful colleagues!) recently took to track down the real name of someone who wrote, in the 1930's and 40's, under a pseudonym.
AI can only replace historians in the sense that it can spit out mediocre, plagiarized narrative that vaguely resembles history. It will never replace *good* historians. Unfortunately, many university presidents and CEOs don’t seem to care about the quality of work being done, only the quantity- 1/2

This may be an older post, but I *strongly* second this.
Please stop saying "parents have the right to decide what their kid reads but not yours" and start saying "children have the right to read."

Children and teenagers have rights all their own. We should treat them as patrons with full library rights like anyone else.
