Raising four humans, working on a physics PhD (nanomagnetism), coding, and breaking Linux systems for fun. Somehow, this is my hobby. Giving up isn’t my algorithm. juliafrank.net and https://www.youtube.com/@juliaifrank GitHub: https://github.com/ju-pixel

Trying out Bluesky.

I’m Julia. I do computational #physics, code in #julialang, use #Linux and macOS (whichever gets the job done). I’m a #PhD student in my 40s with four kids and too many interests.

I post about research, academic life, coding, and whatever I’m figuring out lately.

Hi 👋
Big news: my research + cover art just made the Front Cover of Nano Letters :) #MyACSCover #nanoscience

4 hours of sleep. Again.

I finished a data animation script, wrote and filmed 2 videos, edited and posted 1, with a matching blog post, and found a way to solve a coding problem that’s been haunting me for days…

…but I also found my coffee mug in the fridge.

We need balance, people. I need sleep.

My first first-author paper came back from review.

Verdict: major revisions.

But also, both reviewers want to see it published.

Not a rejection, but not a breeze either.

It’s happening.

With my first first-author paper on artificial spin ice simulations off to the reviewers, it’s time for the next boss level: writing my PhD proposal.

If you're in the same boat, solidarity. Tips welcome. ☕️ 🧠 🙂

I wrote my first #Obsidian plugin last weekend — with zero knowledge of plugin dev, TypeScript, Node.js, or the Obsidian API.

I never planned to write a plugin. I just got tired of copy-pasting between Obsidian and #WordPress.

What I had: a clear pain point and just enough stubbornness.
