Avatar pioneered making hyperreal cgi characters emotional and empathetic, you really do see its influence in *how* stories are told. Maybe avatar seems inevitable, but there was so much creativity that went into creating the cinematic language that now seems so secondnature

I suppose i think of both of them as the high watermark for vfx in the eras that followed. I think it was one of the first times i remember cinemas being thought of as a “premium experience” in the wake of hd broadcasts accustoming our eyes to more than 240 lines in-home
