For a university press book on a very specialized topic, Mack Walker, German Home Towns: Community, State, and General Estate 1648-1871 is very engaging.

Yes. Its German name is Bohnenkraut, bean herb.
It's very uncommon in US cooking. I have an old recipe of my Mom's that calls for it, but could not find it in any local supermarket. I subbed herbes de Provence just fine.

Always good of you to tease the upcoming episodes so we can take our wild guesses. Like, is the trio of interlinked ones related to Laurel Canyon? But I don't have CSNY appearing until #192... But I'm betting on Tommy for #183.

This is a nice coincidence. I have been tracing friendship networks in Stammbücher and Johann Conrad Dürr is an important connector. He made a study tour up to Helmstedt in the late 1640s and collected lots of inscriptions. I wouldn't have heard of him otherwise.

Interesting to learn that you were part of the Ruth Asawa kids art programs in SF.
I assume that the SFMOMA show was mostly the same as the NYMOMA show going on now. Seeing things like her Guggenheim application made this different from your run of the mill retrospective. Great art too!
