When I was in Vietnam, I took the city bus from Lào Cai to Sa Pa (in repost) what was interesting was buses also double as a shipping line and picks up/drops off freight as it picks up passengers. There was so much freight I had to move to the back by the time we left Lào Cai.

There is now a lot of freight being transported by Line 11. I count over 40 trolleys filled with parcels just sitting on the platform.

Coming back from riding the opening of Dongguan Metro Line 1 last Friday, it was late so I decided to swung by Shenzhen Metro Futian Station to check on Line 11's night metro freight experiment...

I was told elevated quadruple track railways ruins neighborhoods.

Has a side effect of announcing the opening phasing (if any) of any metro line segments over the next few years.

Updating all maps for rapidly expanding Chinese metro systems every year is a big undertaking. Shenzhen has an interesting work around where they print a map of the network a few years ahead and print rows of stickers you can peel off one by one as extensions open. This also...

Yesterday I went to Dongguan for the opening of Dongguan Metro Line 1. Stay tuned.

Remember, Hong Kong's glittering massive skyline, the largest collection of skyscrapers on the planet, containing some of the tallest buildings in the world; were all built using bamboo scaffolding and the Lion Rock spirit.
November 27, 2025 at 12:23 PM
states "plastic sheeting covering scaffolding erected around buildings under construction, demolition, renovation or repair should be flame retardant." Examples of recognized Chinese, British and American standards are listed below:

and flammable styrofoam used to board up windows (not common I think it was done here to protect the glass) that caused the fire to spread quickly. Bamboo does not catch fire that easily, shown by how most of the bamboo scaffolding remained intact after the tragedy. Under...

For those of you following of the tragedy at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong yesterday/today. Firstly my condolences to all the victims. Secondly a lot of Western media is blaming the bamboo scaffolding for spreading the fire when it is actually the flammable substandard netting....

But Central Yards is pretty cool so I guess it's great Henderson Land is glazing it.
November 27, 2025 at 8:59 AM
Interesting that Henderson Land (a prominent HK developer) is aggressively advertising their newest flagship groundscraper development (Central Yards) when opening is still 2 years away...

Chongqing Metro Line 4 West Extension undergoing testing. Opening hopefully in January 2026. Chongqing Metro Line 4 W Ext is a 11km 9 station inner city underground extension estimated to cost 235 million INT$./km to build. Video by 安小飞.

Dongguan Metro Line 1 undergoing final testing opening scheduled for 28 November 2025. Which is.... OMG in 2 days.

BUT the project is now called the "Line 8 Northern Extension and Southern Branch". Guangzhou Metro hid an entirely new line (Line 24) in an innocuously named extension the project. (probs to make it easier to get approval) 🤣😂 Only in China do you disguise a 30km line as a simple "extension project".
November 26, 2025 at 4:00 AM
So magic happens and the original Line 8 northern northern extension (right) got cut back, the branch and northern section to Guangzhou North Railway station is combined to become a new 40km long Line, Line 24. (left)...
November 26, 2025 at 4:00 AM
.... the new regulations on urban line length means the longer slog from Guangzhou North Station via Line 8 (blue in previous map) can not exist. So the plan below can not just be an extension of Line 8 with a branch line...

See below in blue for this monster branch line. Pink is the other direct branch, as shown in the previous train service diagram. However, new regulations restrict the route length of urban metro lines to prevent long unwieldly lines proposed in this plan....

The leg going thru the original Line 8 and the proposed Eastern Extension (both in blue below) would create a 80km long service with tight urban stop spacings and only 80kph running....
November 26, 2025 at 4:00 AM
A complicated service was proposed for this project with L8 trains from Guangzhou N Station reverse branching with one leg going thru original L8 and beyond via Eastern Ext (blue) and the other a direct route to Guangzhou center (dashed red line in previous map, pink line here)....
November 26, 2025 at 4:00 AM
Later a southern branch paralleling Line 8 heading into Guangzhou city center was added to the Line 8 Northern Northern Extension proposal (red dashed line). Just cause....
November 26, 2025 at 4:00 AM
Originally Line 8 was planned heading to Guangzhou North Railway station in Huadu District in a project called the Northern Northern Extension (八號綫北北延段) as there was already was a Northern Extension underway from Cultural Park to Baiyunhu (白云湖) which today called Jiaoxin...

Line 24 is part of the "Line 8 Northern Extension and Southern Branch" project which started construction in 2023, adding +30km of additional under construction metro, cementing Guangzhou-Foshan with the largest metro expansion program in the world. However the project looks insanely strange...
