Strategy note.

Hello my friends. You need three plans to exploit change and focus on opportunity.

1) A plan for the "Happy ending": In this case, even though there is a lot of change in the big world, everything in your little world works out great (this is an easy plan to make). Relax!

Thinking about some streming reviews I’ve read lately:
Sometimes I want to say to critics, “Y’all get down in the trenches and try doing this some of this shit. Then listen to some asshole tell you everything you did wrong.”

I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of detainees being removed from the United States to foreign prisons until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.

Good morning.

Today is the 80th day that the U.S. President is running a backdoor bribery scheme in which any CEO or foreign oligarch can send him money secretly through his crypto coin scam in exchange for favors.

It's the biggest scandal in the history of the Presidency.

🧵 1/x Remember when we spoke about the need for three plans? One for the "happy ending," one for the "same old same old," and one for the "harsh new reality?"

Well, a lot of people are experiencing the "harsh new reality." What to do?

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you how to do it.

Marketing prof here.🧵 It's the Wild West out there. Many of our most famous marketers today are just straight up LIARS. One lie after another. What I term, "The Pinocchio Concept of Marketing." Lying to get a deal. What is wrong with that? A lot. 1/x

6/6 Finally, bring it all together. The big idea: Generate alternatives using scenarios when faced with a high level of uncertainty. This can get very complicated. But, even a simple analysis makes you think creatively. When there is a lot of uncertainty, scenarios are much safer than forecasting.

5/6 Synthesis: Look at the trends 📈 and uncertainties 🔺. Create causal stories to explain what is going on that is impacting your world. Explain the logic! Always ask, "Why?" Why are all these people collecting Social Security? Why are they so worried? Why are Congressmen inclined to cut benefits?

4/6 Then, evaluate each uncertainty in both a positive and negative light. A) Create a scenario with all positive outcomes for Social Security. The "happy ending." B) Create a scenario with all negative uncertainties. The "harsh reality." C) Then, synthesize with another scenario. Tell the story! 📖

3/6 Simple example using #SocialSecurity. A) Predetermined elements: the number of people collecting Social Security. B) Key trends: the increasing number of people worried about Social Security benefits. C) Key uncertainty: the number of Congressmen who will vote to cut social security.

2/6 2) Create scenarios. (see PJH Shoemaker). Create a model focusing on the causal connections of the factors affecting you. Steps. Identify A) predetermined elements, B) key trends, and C) key uncertainties that impact a decision. Note: The process often yields greater insight than the model. 🧐

1/6 🧵. Danger to report. Many policies have been promised starting January 20th: #deportation, #tariffs, #drilling, and, of course, #thewall. Need advice?

1) Avoid forecasting: Danger! There are way too many variables to predict exactly what #trump will do. You need a "pre-decision" analysis.

Fact: 2025 will be a "Harsh reality" for many people.

During the 2024 election, promises were made. If half of these promises are kept, it will be a harsh reality for many people. Examples: Immigration, diversity, education to name a few.

Prepare: Adapt to the new environment so you can survive.

3) A plan for the "Harsh new reality": In this case, everything in the big world is changing and affecting your little world in a bad way. Often, people have a hard time making a plan under these circumstances. Perhaps because they believe "It can't be that bad!" But, "What if it is that bad?"

2) A plan for the "Same old same old": While the the big world changes, everything in your little world continues "as is" (more of the same). In this case, people just keep doing what they are doing because, while the big world is changing around them, not much is changing in their little world.

Withdrawing from the World Health Org will be CATASTROPHIC!

Especially under the (lack of) leadership of a former 10 yr heroin addict without background in medicine, healthcare, & without the grasp of basic science, who denies the efficacy of life-saving vaccines-with multiple pandemics brewing.

To put Medicaid CAPS in perspective, STATES will be the decision makers on who gets what when the CAP is reached. Children, veterans, seniors in nursing homes, Americans like me with disabilities and working families will LOSE their access to healthcare. This is absolutely DESPICABLE! Vile & CRUEL!😡
This is their plan to starve Medicaid. Gutting Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars will rip health care away from kids, veterans, seniors in nursing homes, Americans with disabilities, and working families. You don’t cut a TRILLION dollars from Medicaid without hurting millions of people.

Very sad. In 1978, I helped recruit Bob Uecker to help raise money for MDA. He agreed to help, then ended up becoming the national sports chairman for MDA. What a great guy. Tragically, in later years, his daughter was a victim of ALS. RIP Bob. See ALS appeal:

🧵 1/x How can your small business survive #ShockAndAwe? Or thrive? Like many political promises, #ShockAndAwe may never happen. But, if real, some will be affected positively, others negatively. We present 5 adaptation problems of #ShockAndAwe for small business. Then, 5 opportunities. Hang on.

🧵 1/x #shockandawe has been promised on day one. For some, this will be "The happy ending." (See my pinned post). That is, the new regime will provide them a happy ending.

On the other hand, "Shock and awe" will bring a "harsh new reality" for many others. Not a happy ending. What to do?
