Riding bikes, staying one step ahead of my garden some of the time. No need to follow back - if you follow me we'll both be lost.
I spotted this squirrel in the park. Maybe it's looking for nuts?

This Day in Labor History: November 27, 1937. The International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) debuted its play “Pins and Needles,” which would become the longest running musical of the 1930s. Let's talk about this moment of labor feminism meeting popular culture!

It's hard to describe how helpful the chickens are when transplanting winter leeks

Something I haven't seen before - one of my leek seed heads has tiny bulbils forming at the center of the head. I often see the seeds sprout on the head, which then falls over and launches next year's plants.

This Day in Labor History: November 22, 1909. Approximately 20,000 garment workers in New York City went on strike against the horrendous conditions of their sweatshops. This strike, known as the Uprising of the 20,000, was the largest strike led by women in American history to that time!!!

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

A man who sees his power collapsing and is trying to claw it back. This is weakness, not strength.

Interesting fact: even with the nickel fare, the Seattle streetcar system was profitable before servicing debt right up to the year the tracks were pulled up. Labor, maintenance, operations, etc. were all covered.

The debt from building the system, though, could not be borne by the nickel fare.
As costs rose, the nickel fare faced an ever-steeper slope.

Working remotely from friends' house and spent several hours yesterday on the phone with IT trying to figure out why I couldn't access the company server. Long story short, the company server and one of their devices had the same IP address. Which device you ask? The stove/oven...I kid you not.

Somehow one "Gloriosa" dahlia is hanging on. This spot stays slightly warmer - the rest of the tender plants succumbed to frost weeks ago.

This Day in Labor History: November 19, 1915. Utah executed IWW organizer Joe Hill for a murder he almost certainly did not commit. But he was an Wobbly and dispensable to society, especially in Utah, a starkly conservative western state outraged by the sheer existence of these radicals!!!

It probably isn't possible to pinpoint when traditional journalism went off the rails (though I might look very closely at 2016) but this should be the kind of thing that galvanizes resistance from journalists, not something that passes with a shrug.
I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

Mandatory genital inspection of children is a weird, weird thing to want to do.
Brian Heywood's 2 new dangerous initiatives — IL26-001/IL26-638 — threaten the safety of ALL kids, especially trans & queer students, by forcing invasive genital exams on children who want to play sports.

Decline to sign these dangerous initiatives. Take the pledge here: bit.ly/WFFDecline
