Blyth was originally Snoc de Bliemue , 1298 , and le Blithsnoke 1386....Blythmouth Snook - a projection of land at the mouth of the river. Then, Blythemouth.
Blyth itself means "the gentle one", referring to the river. Recorded as Blida 1130 and Blythe from 1267. Old English.
