Radiohead at the O2 were…ok. They have amazing songs, obviously, and are amazing musicians. And bits of it were brilliant. But overall I found it a tiny bit frustrating and bits of it were, as I overheard one person describing it, just noise.

Starsailor last night at the Forum in Kentish Town. I last saw them 20+ years ago, and haven’t thought about them that much since then, but they were great and it was a really fun gig.

Good to see this recommendation on increasing access to education and training in today’s Justice Select Committee report on drugs in prison.

Good to see @feweek.bsky.social covering the recent @hmiprisonsnews.bsky.social report on child custody.

Young people are spending far too much time in their cell and not enough time in classrooms or doing other positive activities.

Good to see the Law Society calling for more investment in prison education in their response to the Sentencing Bill.

I see that Jake Richards is also joining (possibly replacing Nic Dakin?).

Good to see innovative things - in this case a workshop teaching people to build bikes out of bamboo - happening in prisons despite all the current challenges. And also good to see the value of family connections being realised.

Good to have the opportunity to give evidence to the London Assembly’s Economy, Culture and Skills Committee for their inquiry on employment for people leaving prison.

Thank you to @hinabokharild.bsky.social for the invitation.

Lots of good sense in today's report on prisons from the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee, including this recommendation on education provision.

Predictably downbeat overview of purposeful activity in @hmiprisonsnews.bsky.social annual report.

But it also picks out some bright spots, eg links with employers at Hatfield + Kirklevington Grange and reading at Rye Hill + Standford Hill.

Lana Del Rey at Wembley last night. A bit uneven, but the highs (Video Games, Born to Die, Young and Beautiful, Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard) were great and a cover of Take Me Home, Country Roads was an unexpectedly fun closer.

Back at Pulp for a second time last night.* Absolutely brilliant, and a chance to really enjoy some of the less well known songs alongside the hits! And l loved Sunset as a slow, gentle finish after the high of Common People.

(* I’m not a superfan, I’m just not very organised.)

First gig of the year last night, seeing the mighty Pulp at the O2. The new songs sounded great, nobody dances quite like Jarvis, and Disco 2000 may be the best live song there is.

Typically bleak interview with Charlie Taylor in @thehousemag.bsky.social on the state of prisons, including this snippet on education.

But also more praise for Oakwood and some suggestions on the benefits of more governor autonomy alongside more training.

An update by Lord Timpson on his first few months as prisons ministers and the importance of focusing on employment after release.

Good to see the focus on skills and a mention of the need to improve access to education and training.
