this applies to pacing for fatigue management and physical therapy, too, fyi.
One day, your brain will say “I feel better! I don’t even need these meds!” And it’s very important that you do not listen 😂

This holiday season, In case you were not aware; tulips, lillies, cyclamen, holly, mistletoe and poinsettia are toxic to cats and dogs; lilies and cyclamen are especially deadly for cats. Please be advised, I do not want anyone to lose a beloved pet just because they werent warned!

True, but still not as weird as Pericles!
However insane you remember The Tempest being, it is more insane than that.

It’s International Day of People with Disabilities and I really want to talk about one of the most severe, under-researched, underfunded disabilities: ME/CFS.

This complex neuroimmune condition has a lower quality of life that chemo, kidney failure, and late-stage HIV patients.

Something joyous for your Tuesday: David Byrne’s Tiny Desk Concert. It’s good for what ails ya. [kottke.org]
David Byrne’s Tiny Desk Concert
There are a few artists where you hear their name and “Tiny Desk” and you think, well, that’s going to be great. David Byrne is one of those and his performance does not disappoint. Though Byrne and his band do normal

Some darlings are great; if we killed them all, Shakespeare would be awfully bland.

But some darlings don't belong in the story you wrote. Better to determine what needs to go during the editing phase. Don't bother during the first draft phase. That's the official Darlings Recess. They get to play.
You don't have to kill ALL your darlings, okay?

Gentle reminder as we hurtle towards the conclusion of another year:

Choose kindness, but never at the cost of your peace. The world is shit right now and kindness despite that is in itself an act of rebellion, but not when it means entertaining the heinous bullshit of fools.

Take care, folks.

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

When the two-part miniseries Anne of Green Gables debuted on CBC on Dec. 1, 1985, nearly six million Canadians tuned in. It went on to win 10 Geminis, an Emmy and a Peabody.
To this day, the miniseries is studied in film schools.
This is the story of that miniseries.

What I was working on today:
About tautology: "a writer may... emphasise [an] aspect of the thing they're describing, but the effect is often an implication that the thing might sometimes not align with [that aspect]. To illustrate, the phrase "assless chaps" implies the existence of "assed" chaps... better known as trousers".

I've been commended for my writing skills enough by now to actually believe it, but it's still a pleasant surprise to get a compliment about it.

What I should give myself more credit for is being a damn good cook!
Tell me something you're good at, a skill or talent, that you don't often give yourself credit for.

Bonus points if others have praised it about you, but you're uncomfortable with that praise.

ANYWAY

Buy from small businesses
Buy from independent creators
Buy passion projects
Buy commissions
Buy art

In a society that's decided that money is final word, be aware of where yours goes and to support what

Yes it sucks, I don't like it either, but pretending it's not a thing does not help!

Cannot be said enough.

If you're AFAB and of a certain age bracket, and your mind and body have started malfunctioning in bizarre ways...

I am not a doctor, I can't guarantee anything, but at least consider HRT.

Esp if you're neurospicy. HRT is helping my ADHD meds work better, hand to god.
Truly HRT is a life saver

A #booksky or #writesky long shot but I'm looking for a short I read but cannot for the life of me remember the title or author.

I read it in a single sitting some time before 2021, discovered it on maybe twitter or tumblr and I think it was something like "The Seux of Roses" or something

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

I've read it and it would make a fantastic gift for the tamariki in your life. It's a rollicking read.

Set in New Zealand and based strongly in Māori mythology. A perfect alternative to the boy wizard.
Hey, gonna shamelessly plug my wares:
Charlie Tangaroa and the God of War is now a year old and, sadly, despite brilliant reviews, has kinda been ignored. It's a bit longer than book 1 but is very exciting

Were These The Letters That Condemned King Charles? 🪶

The Battle of Naseby was a devastating blow to the Royalist cause. Not only did the Parliamentarians wipe out King Charles’s main army, but they also captured the Royalist baggage train.

Remember - if you're financially in a position to do so, skip the #BlackFriday deals online from big companies and shop instead from small and local businesses.
The big guns don't need your money, but for small traders it can be what keeps them going into 2026, so support your community instead.
