E) I’ll have to stop anyway at the next crossing, and he’ll catch up with me, thinking, “So how did that little burst of speed work out for you?”
Or I could cross to the other side and speed up on that side, or catch a bus or a lime bike, or Aaaaaaaaaaargh
Any advice gratefully received.

D) Or maybe he’ll notice that I’ve only got around 10 yards ahead of him and can’t keep it up, and instead settled back into the same pace, like some kind of middle-pavement hogger, handing him the same dilemma I just suffered.

B) I will have to walk at an uncomfortably fast pace and will end up at my destination unnecessarily sweaty.
C) I may run out of gas, with the result that he then overtakes ME again.

3/ Meanwhile, If I speed up and overtake him there are several risks:
A) I might look like the kind of twerp who thinks he is cool strutting at pace past people as if in a race. Like the kind of berk who gives people a too-firm handshake thinking it indicates strength of ‘character’

2/ Now, I could slow down a little and give him some space, but I’ve carefully calculated that it will take me 12 minutes to catch my train at my natural, fairly brisk walking pace, so if I slow that could throw my plans into jeopardy.
I might also look like some kind of stalker or spy.

A social dilemma for you folks:
The man pictured has just turned the corner and fallen into step just in front of me on my way walking up a long road.
As we walk on, I notice he is walking at EXACTLY the same pace as me. This makes me uncomfortable as I’m so close to him. So what do I do?

Christmas lights. Taking a systematic approach this year. All is calm, all is bright (once I’ve unravelled the murderously intolerable motherfuckers)
