We’re a small family in Cumbria, bringing her grandparents’ herb farm back to life. If you would like to read and share our story, we’d be so grateful.

Bare branches take the dusk,
wi' glisk o' frost on t’lonnin.
A robin tips the silence —
the world tilts into stillness.

😁 Enjoyed making this blend: a #jueju (絕句) - four-line classical Chinese poem form - which uses #Cumbriandialect

Give praise with water,
With storms of rain and thunder

And the small rains that sparkle as they dry,

And the faint floating ocean roar
That fills the seaside villages,

And the clear brooks that travel down the mountains

This #NationalTreeWeek, we want to highlight how useful fallen leaves are for both our wildlife and our gardening needs. 🍂

They're used by hibernating wildlife like hedgehogs, form warmer micro-climates that protect garden plants and invertebrates and even create cosy beds for our staff! 😉

Black and gold; shade and spring light:
chiaroscuro through leaves
held in this cold hand.
Then - suddenly - November
is spring in Yunnan.

Sharp wind, sliced moon - man
sleepless holding forgiveness

My wife and I are re-establishing a fondly remembered herb garden at our home in Cumbria. These old buildings - traditional long narrow cottage and barn - have been here several centuries, but our connection to the place goes back to Rachel's grandparents who founded The Herb Farm in the late 1940s.

Winter arrived today
like an absence

noticed only in the deep quiet
between blackbird song

and the empty chair
at the table,

fields of unfathomed frost
separating us -

until the first tears
of meltwater

return the kiss of sunlight
and pass into memory.

The rummage continues. Found two more of my poems in a December 2013 copy of Kaffeeklatsch, which the excellent Joey Connolly (now Director of @faberbooks.bsky.social Academy) launched while we were at University of @manchester.ac.uk

Completely forgot I wrote this poem about Gore Point on The Wash in Norfolk. Found it in @poetrybusiness.bsky.social 's The North No. 53 Autumn 2014.

I have other poems in other copies of The North... if only I could find them too...

His earthy hands, loam
from the allotment. Produce
never held for long.
Always given as gifts, seeds
of dreams grown into harvest.
