Pertinent advice from a century ago, inscribed by a detained would be-immigrant into the walls of the Detention Center at Angel Island, near San Francisco. I visited it, again, this weekend.

Here's a piece that helped bring those horrors to the front in pre-abolition London: Turner's 1840 painting "the Slave Ship" or "Slavers Throwing overboard the Dead and Dying—Typhon coming on"
Painting is now in Boston's MFA.

Today, a hero came by our home. It was his home 35 or more years ago.
We had a great visit.
Who is this?
Rusty Schweikart, Apollo 9 astronaut, first pilot of the Lunar Landing Module - and then post-NASA, an advisor to the California Governor.

And then, the Magnificent Frigate Bird, a bird shaped like a perfect dart; a bird that flies for days and weeks, napping / sleeping; a bird that wheels, effortlessly, endlessly in the warm air.

@bluesky has deep medical juice.
I had 😞 to look up a pathological term and it led me to @pathologyoutlines.bsky.social and the page I needed - and, it turns out, every page - has this image: FOLLOW US ON BLUESKY

O look, @nytimes.com came up with Yet Another Way to avoid saying Trump is breaking the law.
"No, your honor, I didn't break the law, I collided with it."

Warm, sunny days are here again and so here are California's grid data from yesterday. At 1pm 22GW was from grid-based renewables (large solar + wind). 2M+ homes and businesses with solar panels could add perhaps 4GW at peak.
(Somewhat surprised at how large the gas power was)

Not nuts at all.
Lazard's 2024 report has the lowest levelized cost of energy in the USA as onshore wind and then utility-scale solar (but this excludes storage). Tiny thread in support of Amy.

There likely are some floor prices, with one for Putin, perhaps and another for MBS, etc. But below 224 rn.

This is some good writing:
"the legal profession is again confronted with the specter of some of its prominent members penning meritless, even frivolous, justifications of a President’s desire to violate the basic human rights of a vulnerable population"

The just-booted head of 18F posted on LinkedIn. From which: "We were living proof that the talking points of this administration were false. Government services can be efficient. You can work with agencies as they are now and work with them to better manage their services. This made us a target."
