Music, mainly.
Looks fantastic. I loved all those Paisley Underground bands. The Long Ryders in 1985 is still one of my favourite gigs, and in the years since I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Steve and Dan and Sid and Chuck, and last year for the first time the Rain Parade. Definitely buying!

Ornette Coleman & Orchestra playing Skies of America in the Royal Festival Hall springs to mind. About 1988 or 89, I think. I was in the choir seats at the back of the stage. It was quite thrilling.

Never saw the Art Ensemble, but did see Lester and his Brass Fantasy in London, late ‘80s. Great fun!

And from the same book, a very 1970s advert featuring the Genesis album.

This is from Ashley Kahn’s brilliant book on Impulse, The House That Trane Built. Hard to argue with it.

They didn’t even put the name of the album - Trespass - on the label. And what’s with the quotation marks?

His brother David Lee’s lyrics haven’t aged well either.

One thing which often amuses me is when there’s a teenage character and they’ve cast someone far too old. I was watching something recently and the teenager asked his mother if he could stay out past midnight, and I shouted at the screen “Of course you effing can - you’re about 30!”

David Coverdale was asked to join Paice, Ashton and Lord, but that could have made CLAP …

Princess Di was actually in Scritti Politti.

A bit more golf before the third test will sort them all out.

I read somewhere (wish I could recall who said it) that ‘The ‘60s’ ran from 1963 (Beatles, JFK, Profumo) to around 73/74, which sounds about right.

Not enough early stuff on that, for me.

It’s a great collection. They had album tracks which other bands would have killed for as singles.

Myles Davies somewhere as well, surely?
