He's got the look of a landlord who evicts tenants that tell him mushrooms are growing out of the bathroom floorboards.

I assumed as much and thought it was brilliant.

Lucy Worsley, Agatha Christie and a bunch of literature nerds, which is going to work out just great for me.

Looking forward to finding out if these clowns got away unscathed...

You are an interdisciplinarian who excels at translational projects that cut across multiple fields 🤩

I started Duolingo Swedish because my understanding of Swedish was from crime drama and heavily biased towards words for things to do with murder and this is the opposite of solving that problem. On the other hand I'm concentrating on Italian now anyway and it appears perfume is always the answer 😣

*google image search* Holy shit it's like when John Malkovitch goes through the hatch and everybody has his face.

Is your heart ok? Did they check?

Also high five for the Data reference.

I went to a conference at the Exam Schools in Oxford a few years ago. Shiny stone stairs, no handrails! There was a lift, and on the second day I even managed to find it. On the first day I waited for everybody else to finish then went really slowly, sometimes crawling. Good look.

When he said - 20? years ago - that maybe women just weren't meant to do science, that's when he should have been made to step back from public life. He definitely should have been stopped from teaching then. It was the equivalent of a sign at the edge of a cliff saying "don't walk past this sign".

A colleeague and friend during our PhDs used to call them "maths biscuits" and I suspect he got them whenever he needed to do a hard bit of programming. He later went on to do difficult programming for DESY so maybe it worked but I suspect he was just awesome.

It is now but not so much when the people asked were at school. I'm 43 and I got like one lesson in little detail or depth.

Also during the 10,000 times we looked at literature by Jane Austen, George Eliot, etc. we didn't also learn that the mega-bucks people in the stories would have been rich from slavery so Mr Darcy and Mr Bingley were both fucking monsters.

Also I think the duration isn't covered - before I learned more I thought it was literally a few decades before abolition. Certainly we didn't learn that this started with the Tudors and was going on through all the king shit we were then taught.

Perfunctorily in mine, but not the huge number of people who were abducted and without context of quite how badly they were abused.

It's a badge but also a direct line to dial-a-nerd which gives it excellent value.

November 2023. Still in statutory period, if we can persuade men to fix what they didn't do right, but it's easier to just lean out of the window with a sealant gun and do it myself. Lizzie will hold my legs so I don't fall out.
