After reading “The Lives of the Caesars” by Suetonius (translated by the great Tom Holland of “The Rest Is History” fame), I’ve been waiting for someone to make this clear & obvious historical analogy. This could have been written of Julius in 44 BC, the beginning of the end of the Republic.
