People were coming out and I was arguing with my very Catholic relatives about why being gay was okay. I mean I had to have the argument. And I was super naive about my points. But I was able to have it and they were engaged and willing to think about it and potentially adjust their views.

Before 9/11 felt like a time when things were going in the right direction. The Berlin Wall fell and the world opened up. I went to Eastern Europe in 1997 and the Americans had made everyone in Prague hate us. But the small towns were wonderful. I ran into Madeline Albright on the streets of one.

Yes; this. I worked on a historic farm and we had strainers (so much hair and gunk in the filters) and then an electric pasturizer. This was in the 1990s, but the equipment had probably been bought at farm auctions and was likely from the 1940s or 50s

As someone who grew up in the US, it seems a big difference in Canada is there’s just 1 or 2 choices here. Only two types of Girl Guide cookies. Only a few types of flavoured colas; most seasonal. And only one city that really feels like a big cosmopolitan North American city and that is Toronto.
