We’d spend a lifetime there if we had the funding! More radiocarbon dates coming, and hopefully more excavation in the future

It also attaches to the edge of another, even larger hillfort known as Spinans Hill, which, at 131 hectares (or about 187 football pitches!) is the largest archaeological monument in Ireland! A behemoth!!

I LOVE the fact that these 'hillforts' are now starting to look more like citadels, with upper 'cities' and lower 'cities'. The old polis model!

….we had originally called this a ‘proto-urban’ centre, and to my mind it very much is. I always think about how completely different this looks to what is happening in the contemporary landscape of isolated farmsteads in the lowlands.
