it is possible to be clear-eyed about what we’re facing without throwing up your hands and going, well, I guess we’ve lost forever, nothing we can do about it

we have not and we shouldn’t make it easier for them

I used to think having clerics of the plague gods was a crazy idea from RPGs ("Who would worship a disease?") until the pandemic happened and the craziest anti-vaxxers showed up.

But turns out paladins and champions are real things too, and they are here to help.

Add that to his $470 million in compensation since 2019, and the king of failing up is about to be a billionaire.

"Some of the people viewing the video thought ... could have been an attempt to surrender"

It's both hilarious and fucked up that Amazon might have just killed Prime's chances of becoming a "prestige" anime platform by rushing AI dubs out the door.

They let the pursuit of more money jeopardize the money they were making, which is applicable to all of AI/the modern tech sector.

You can still be an anime fan and not have to be watching something at all times.

There's so much pressure to have to be always keeping up and always grinding through the backlog.

It's fine to take a break.

Might be a cold take but a good reminder.

In sociology, a recurring methodological problem encountered by those trying to study the very rich is that their domains of existence are so far removed from the experiences of ordinary people that the researchers, before they even start, have to fundamentally reshape their social ontologies
When we talk about "taxing rich people" there's folks who think we're talking about Aunt Edna who has the second summer home. The astronomical levels of "rich" that now exist are almost unfathomable to people. It's the stuff of vast empirical dynasties. We're talking about taxing emperors.
