Word-wrangler. U.S. history and philosophy teacher. Literacy tutor with delusions of efficacy. Friend.
They will also lose the donations of every sane alumnus/a. Why should I give money to an alma mater when it will go straight to a Trump payoff?

Consider, in addition, reading Katharine White's "Onward and Upward in the Garden," a classy book that delights in seed and flower catalogues. www.magersandquinn.com/product/Onwa...

A local community college has a year-long introductory arithmetic class. In the fall semester, it covers addition and subtraction. In the spring, it covers multiplication and division. I kid you not!

Odd how the force of Church hierarchy vanishes when you're on the wrong side of it! "More Catholic than the Pope!"

Strait is the Gate, by André Gide. Teenage love shredded by religious fanaticism. When I read this in HS, I mistakenly thought Gide was favoring passionate renunciation and surrender to God.

I felt subversive when I tuned in to the BBC News radio simulcast on KCRW at midnight in LA. The pips, 8:00 GMT, and live from London!

There's a golf community in Boca Raton, basically for middle-class snowbirds, whose clubhouse looked like this. The club decided that the decor was unacceptable, so they levied an assessment and redid it.

I suspect his office got a starving graduate student to read and recommend the books for under $900. Reputational recovery? Priceless.

Every place you can eat lunch out, across the board, costs at least $15 plus tax and tip, which makes at least $20. And thanks to supermarket inflation, making sandwiches isn't such a good deal, either. Homemade slop, made weekly and Tupperwared day by day, seems the only way to go for us plebs.

I just read it. Beautiful. Thanks for the reference.

He was a true "swing justice," maybe the best. He would have been peeved with the conclusion-first, rationale-afterward decisions today.

I think reducing our clear conclusions to mere "feelings" is condescending. The Senator's posts imply "feelings" are irrational and transitory, and can be shed through reason, perhaps in a CBT therapist's office. This is the kind of deliberate, gaslighting misprision we get from JD Vance.

In a better world, Jim Clark would never have met Marc Andreessen.

@mskellymhayes.bsky.social I now have two copies because I forgot about the one I preordered months back. I will have to pass one on to someone deserving.

When Roosevelt wanted to appoint Hugo Black as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, he knew that Black had been a former member of the KKK in its heyday. He sounded Black out on the subject, and received Black's word that he had never persecuted Negroes, only Catholics.
