The states are the only level of government that have ever done anything, and they have the corporate knowledge for state capacity. You will never pass a referendum abolishing the states. Abolish local government and make more states if needed. It's right there in the constitution how to.

None of these tasks are unreasonable on their own. But together, they create a workload that even the most dedicated colleagues struggle to balance. The result? Burnout, stalled research, missed opportunities and a quiet sense that we’re stretching people far beyond what the system was designed for.

The length of our grants is also not conducive to high risk / high reward research. We are always under pressure to demonstrate our 'productivity' to obtain the next grant.
