AI Researcher, Photographer, Historian... and a little bit of this and that. Living in Aurora, IL, living large in the Fox Valley and an occasional visitor to our suburb to the east, Chicago, or is that Naperville... a once and future digital nomad.
Here's a quick recap of our AI collaboration series:

Week 1: Your AI is making you faster at working wrong

Week 2: The problem isn't capability - it's memory. (link below) Current AI remembers what you said but forgets why it mattered

Worry about the erosion of truth today or the loss of human control over technology tomorrow? Is predictive medicine going to save my life next week, and is AI going to make work more enjoyable for the rest of my working days?

Questions, questions...

Thanksgiving dinner is just leftovers now, and getting out of bed this morning was a bit wobbly. Not the oldest at the table this year but getting closer.

Every year it's different, yet every time it's the same - just show up. It's about being present.

Just being in the room is the point.

This Thanksgiving, be grateful your family remembers why things matter, not just what was said. Your AI? Not so much. Week 2 of our relational AI discussion explores why dimensional memory beats data retrieval every time.

Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue says we’re not in an AI bubble, but an “LLM bubble”... I agree, but the big question is what will succeed the LLM in the public's imagination?

The looming divide: one sees AI as liberation, another sees loss of authenticity, autonomy erosion, and reduction of humans to optimization targets. A synthesis of selective AI augmentation, democratic governance, and recognition that some domains should remain primarily human offers a third path.

I sailed past 60 a long time ago. If I could talk to a younger version of myself, the first words out of my mouth would be that I didn't have to be confined by the narratives we are fed about aging.

Remember all the struggles with mindfulness and being present? Start that earlier! It matters.

Starting to really think about the final stages of restoring our 1894 Queen Anne - interior decorating.

Ugh, not my forte!

But I really want to nail "conversation spaces" and reading nooks.

The people who need to read this don't yet know they're in this field. They are in your kitchen, your friend's house and on every corner of every block. Relational AI is already here, people are already doing it, but you haven't really thought about it, yet.

Crypto loses billions to fraud. Aurora, IL wastes IT money on Vegas junkets. Bob's not anti-technology or anti-government, he's just pro-accountability. Neither has earned his trust. Yet.

Whatever happened to "virtual communities" like Eminds or Mindsay? I miss those non-revenue online hangout spots where long posts and endless threads are the norm...

Here's a photo of my friend and colleague, Jorge Bautista, getting shot in the face with a flashbang grenade. The ICE Agent is so afraid of Jorge (who was posing no threat) that he has wet himself. Please share this photo. Everyone needs to know what cowards ICE agents are.

How is having an "Ask ChatGPT" sidebar going to make my browser experience better? I stopped using Comet because the experience is too busy.

Did you know the Lynx text only browser is 30 years old and still going strong?

I'm going to ponder that a bit with my morning libation.
