I'd reckon it's from the same notion as "bean counter," which has similar equivalents in other languages (German Erbsenzähler, a meticulous person), someone who accounts for exact quantities among large sums. So "just beans" would be the antithesis, it's a bag of beans, let's not get too granular.

Oh goodness, I'd be afraid of them too! And I totally get it. My dogs have a LOT more emotional and physical needs than my cat, and I wouldn't have them (especially Fable) if my spouse and I weren't able and willing to devote a good chunk of our day to training and attention.

It's certainly the closest adaptation I've seen to the book! Though I enjoy most adaptations of it for different reasons (especially Young Frankenstein).

Her behavior is a bit more foxlike than doglike, if that helps! Though she is quite rambunctious for about half of the day (which is good for me because I got her to be my hiking and running buddy).
