I have moved from an infantile reception of the universe, as given, into a progressively political self-assertion that is now reaching beyond the limitations of a victim mentality. I choose to exist unafraid of my enemies; instead, I choose to become an enemy to my enemies. And I choose to believe that my enemies can either be vanquished or else converted into allies, into Brothers. And I choose to disregard the death-obsessed, extravagantly depressed and depressing doomsayers around. As a woman, as a Black woman, as a Black woman poet and writer, I choose to believe that we, women and Third World peoples, will in fact succeed in saving ourselves, and our traditional assassins, from the meaning of their fear and their hatred. For you. The Lowry Ave Bridge honoring those who live with Fibromuscular Dysplasia.
The Lowry Ave Bridge in Minneapolis lit in colors to raise awareness for Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD). Hibernating.
Instead of Depression Instead of depression, try calling it hibernation. Imagine the darkness is a cave in which you will be nurtured by doing absolutely nothing. Hibernating animals don't even dream. It's okay if you can't imagine Spring. Sleep through the alarm of the world.
