We went to Palazzo Strozzi earlier to see the Beato Angelico exhibition, and the first thing you see upon entering the building is this absolute fucking horror show. It’s a contemporary reworking of the annunciation, it says, which makes it as great an insult to the intellect as it is the eyes.

Difficult to imagine food being better than this: fennel salami, coarse and porky; chicken fried and baked and fried in its weight in butter, with salty, sautéed spinach, heavenly tomatoes drenched in olive oil, and lettuce in oil and sharp red wine vinegar. Wild strawberries, sugar and lemon juice.
