That happened to me with a viral chicken recipe everybody loves. You’re supposed to cook the chicken over veggies and I looked at the oven temp and time and was like “that’s going to be ash” and it was.

So no, this is not a “poor people don’t care about vegetable” problem, and the fact that some people will state so confidently that it is illustrates a complete lack of understanding of how these systems work and a lack of interest in solving real problems.

Most countries have small format urban style grocery stores that could fit well in many food deserts. But the US has a supermarket oligopoly that prevent small format and independent stores from competing on prices. This is a MASSIVE problem and the kind govt is well suited to solve.

Some of it is about housing density, some is about location (how many people travel through the area matters a LOT). It is also about proximity to other stores, local zoning/parking regs, available land/structures, and grocery industry dynamics.
