There are grocery stores near me that have multiple aisles of snacks - one has them separated by country - so looking for crispy treats is like a treasure hunt.

Some smells are good enough to wade through chest high snow.

I am applying that same test to the 2026 Congressional races.

My black, lab/sharpei Abel loved to sleep in the snowbanks if the sun was out.

No, Lennie is a Tennessee Treeing Brindle and they look enough alike to be litter mates. Embark says she is about half Cur and the other half a mix of fancy hunting breeds. She is a very agile scent hound with strong prey drive and good eyesight.

She still is but has decided that at 11 or 12, she is too old to climb trees anymore and also too old to get snow on her chest - which is going to be tough because we have 16-18 inches on the ground right now.

For those who might have forgotten - she really climbed trees.
December 8, 2025 at 11:54 AM
That is wonderful! We think that Gail is 11 or 12 and although she has given up clinging trees after squirrels, she did climb the neighbor’s 6 ft fence.

Our Santa arrives on a holiday light covered fire truck. I left the even with an armload of non-functional string lights to drop off for recycling or I would have taken pictures.

About 6 inches of snow overnight. Gail is not pleaded because the snow is now up to her chest.

There are a lot of volunteer opportunities out there that are focused on helping people fill out applications for support, apply for jobs or apply for housing. If you like kids, lots of groups put on events for kids and love to have face painters. Lots of nonprofits need help with websites.

In something they organized first to try them out. Keep doing this until you find a good fit. Keep in mind, it is OK to try out a volunteer opportunity, decide it is not a good fit and move on.

Organizations that do things you are passionate about and check them out. Do they appear to be well run? Do they focus on activities on your no list? Do they respond to emails or phone calls? If they are large, do they have volunteer training? Pick a couple and try them out. If you can participate

Make a list of things you are willing to do and things you are not - if you don’t like kids or are uncomfortable with them then kid heavy activities are on the no-list, if you don’t use tolls and don’t want to learn then building is on the no list. No judgement about your lists. Then look for some

I have rescued hunting dogs - when they get going, he bays and she barks - with an occasional howl thrown in. I think he wanted me to let him out to help and she wanted them to go away.
December 7, 2025 at 3:24 PM
I had similar plans until the guy who clears my driveway showed up with his plow and the dogs went crazy.
December 7, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Gail would also find that sus. She has been carefully examining every interesting spot in the snow.

My point is that they are doing that in the stupidest way possible - because only vaccinating people who can pay for the vaccines themselves doesn’t do anyone any good. It may make some people money in the short term, but is a bad long term financial play.
December 7, 2025 at 2:56 PM
That ignores how vaccines work - you and your kids are only safe as long as everyone is safe. It speaks more to our profound inability to understand statistics and risk.
