A picture of Gypsophila 'Covent Garden'. This is a very dainty plant, (also known as Baby's Breath), with very pretty five-petalled white flowers. In reality, although it's an annual plant, it is fairly tough and easy to grow. There is a white butterfly in the picture, feeding from the flowers.

A purple Foxglove flower. The flowers are attached to an upright stem with mid-green leaves also appearing from the stem. The flowers have very pretty markings of dark reddish blobs inside a white ring inside each flower which are bell shaped. This is to help guide Bees to the top of the flower where the pollen is. The background is green consisting of grass and shrubs, trees and various plants.

We were stacking logs earlier and looked up to find an audience on our chimney.
They weren't interested in us, just waiting for us to get out of the way so they could get to the food 😊
Something spooked them after this and they flew off.
We do love our shiny #Starlings 🖤

A group of Starlings on top of our chimney. Although they had been watching us they are all looking skywards in this photo so presumably a bird of prey was about somewhere. They look very shiny in the sunshine. The sky is a lovely deep blue showing up the lichen on our old chimney, (and a not very neat repair below the top slab)

It's been getting a bit nippy here for the past week, (down to -1 tonight), so surprised to see some flowers still blooming today.
They must be tougher than they look 😊
And tougher than us. We had a very short walk down to the river today ❄️
Borage, Corn Marigold, Cornflower and Honesty 💚

A Borage flower, (bit blurry). Borage flowers are star-shaped with five petals and a black centre, (stamens) with a white base where it meets the petals. The leaves and sepals are very furry. A bright yellow Corn Marigold flower. Corn Marigolds are shaped like daisies with bright yellow centres. This one is a little bit tatty but it is November 😊 A bright blue Cornflower. Cornflowers have raggedy leaves and this one is untidier than most. A very late flowering Honesty, (they usually flower in spring/early summer). It is a little ragged with two flowers visible in a very deep pink colour. You can see some Honesty seed pods in the background. They are round green discs and you can see the large brown seeds enclosed within the pods.

I love the Merlin bird app. but it does include some unlikely finds sometimes.
This is the list from a walk this afternoon and we saw/heard them all apart from the Linnet, (possible but surprising), and the Eider, (very, very unlikely as we're not at the coast) 🫤😂

Finished cleaning the first batch of this year's Devil's-bit Scabious seeds this afternoon 🙂
It's been so popular with the Butterflies & Bees this summer and now is a good time to sow it as it needs a cold spell to germinate 🐝🦋

A black metal tray with a heap of Devil's-bit Scabious seeds and a heap of chaff from the cleaning of the seeds. There is also a pair of tweezers that I used to separate one from the other and to check the seeds, (some are hollow and need to be discarded). Devil's-bit Scabious seeds are one of the few seeds I grow that retain their green colour after drying. You can just see the oak table underneath the black tray. A group of Devil's-bit Scabious flowers which have pale purple/mauve pom-pom flowers, with three Red Admiral Butterflies feeding on them. There is a blue rope supporting the plants from a recent storm and a wood and wire fence beyond that protects the plants from the rabbits. There is a lot of greenery from other plant species below and behind the Devil's-bit Scabious. A mauve Devil's-bit Scabious flower with two unopened buds on a reddish stem. There is a Bumblebee feeding from the flower and the background is a blurry green mixture of various leaves and stems from other plants.

The people who look after one of our local woods, have opened up another path so you can walk along the river, (Tarf Water).
Lovely walk even if the river was a bit wild today.
Lots of Tits in the woods & saw a Heron 💚

This one is hung over the top shelf of our old oak dresser that I use to to house some of my natural history books but it would equally as good hanging in doorways, mantelpieces etc., (keep away from naked flames, pets and children). This is a compilation picture showing five different Flowerpot Pincushions. The top is padded with polyester and has a hand-made flower for decoration. The flower has been made with felt with pieces of cotton batik fabric stitched onto it. The top sits inside a terracotta flowerpot which has been pained in an off-white F&B colour. The top lifts off so you can use the spece to store things such as a thimble or a few buttons.

A half-moon in a totally black sky with a reddish tinge and overlaid with some small branches from our elder tree. A red sky at dawn visible between the roofs of two houses. The walls of the houses are painted in a light colour. The houses are 1.5 storey houses which are common in Scotland. It just means we don't really have usuable lofts as there is a single storey housing the living area and the bedrooms are in the roof which often have velux or dormer windows. I like the fact the houses aren't so tall and you can see more sky and hills.

A small-leaved hedge, possibly a lonicera, you know, one of those ones that never flower? There is a green grass field beyond the hedge and one end of our neighbour's washing line. The hedge has many Spiders' webs. There's probably one every 10 to 20 cm.

Nowhere near as gloomy as it looks - if you look carefully, you can see a tiny bit of blue sky reflected in the water.

I love Aphids 💚
These are Absinthe Aphids that I had on a Wormwood plant at a previous home.
I thought they were amazing, (and so did the Ladybirds and Blue Tits 😊)
A pale green stem, with some deeply cut leaves attached, of a Wormwood plant. On the stem are lots of little Absinthe Aphids. They're a pale grey colour but with black blotches and spots and a spike on their bums.
