The Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) program in New York state released October 2025 data. The 20 original GIVE agencies (not NYPD) reported another drop in October, the 40th time in the last 42 months w/fewer shootings than in the same month a year prior. Shootings down 26% in 2025 vs 2024.

Shootings down 26% in 2025 vs 2024.
Aggravated assaults, for example, dropped a ton tied chronologically almost exactly to the Fed deployment, but the rate of simple assaults per aggravated assault skyrocketed as simple assaults remained more or less flat.

Data from the 30 cities with the most murders in 2024 shows the roughly 20% drop in murder persisting through October (only available through August in Phoenix).

New this week: I wrote about Memphis. Crime was dropping prior to the Federal deployment in late Sept. While it has fallen fast since, it's not clear if this accelerated drop is due at least in part to a change in reporting practices.

Shootings in DC are still down substantially from where they were during the worst part of 2023, but are roughly where they were pre-deployment right now.

Pretty decent relationship between the shift to the left relative to 2024 in New Jersey counties with the share of Hispanic population within that county. Less strong relationship in Virginia which makes sense.
