When newly vaxed were declaring "I got Pfizer" "I'm Moderna" "I got Johnson & Johnson," I was begging and pleading to repeat "I got NIH!" People have no clue what government is, what research does, how it's life & death, making it so much easier to destroy.
This is, in large part, pandemic revenge.

As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do.

They can't keep spewing carbon.

They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying.

They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.
Absolute BLOODBATH at HHS/NIH/CDC this morning. Generation of scientists, health care officials being wiped out

Aren't you tired of how central money is to our democracy?

To give a sense of out-of-kilter we are, a single state court race saw significantly more spending than the entire United Kingdom national election.

Thanks John Roberts!

Pro-tip for Elon Musk. Your money is far more popular than you are, and it would be strategically beneficial to your cause to disappear from public view and just buy elections the old fashioned way, like an honorable plutocrat

Hey journalism school students! And profs!

Here's fodder for essay-question analyses.

Both headlines from same paper, 11 months apart. Apr 2024 on left, March 2025 on right.

Inflation rate same both times (2.9%)

Any subtle difference you see?

(I no longer think this "matters" but still)

There is a real pattern where centrists in positions of authority are radicalized sharply rightward after being scolded/criticized by more liberal young people

Happens at universities too!

trump’s apparent obsession with invading canada — and obsession with territorial conquest in general — is only funny insofar that you can use it to make fun of dipshits who backed or apologizes for him because he was “antiwar.” otherwise, it is genuinely quite concerning.

This won’t be the last public servant targeted. Expect indifference as governments and elites torment individuals. Regimes like Russia, China, and Iran follow this playbook: identify a target, then let their inner circles dismantle and destroy them.

I guess every tech titan decided spontaneously to give Trump’s inauguration committee a check for $1 million as opposed to this being some kind of protection racket or tribute. I think that’s it, the spontaneous thing.

The tech bro fascination with eugenics is so on brand. The idea that you could make accurate, actionable predictions from individual genotypes (with all their complex, non-linear interactions) from averaged, linearly modeled population-level genomic statistics is just another big data fantasy

This is an echo of the general election. The trans Democrat is blamed for "sparking" the crisis despite the fact she did nothing beyond be herself.

Before she arrived to DC, or made any demands, the GOP preemptively turned her identity into a political issue.

So, who is doing identity politics?
all she did was exist

My commentary for The Dialogue’s Latin American Advisor on the latest corruption probe against Gustavo Petro: The investigation won't lead to a presidential crisis, its political toll probably won't be that bad, but it might end up being a tool to weaken the left in the long run.
