But airplane's movements in three dimensional space are limited by their reliance on air for lift. No lift, they crash. Starships can operate using all of the 3D space because they are not reliant on lift.

Yes, air wars were a thing but ... starships are nothing like airplanes. Airplanes move like airplanes due to their reliance on air for lift. Starships exist in the weightlessness of space. Enough said.
