paddles like hell underneath
Neighbour invited herself over with wine (she had a standing invitation so it was fine). What's that saying about everyone fighting a battle you know nothing about? Well, until the aftermath I guess.
Also, did I say that it gets easier after 30? Well, kids, it gets hard again in your 40s...

how is it december already?!? time to book all the eye exams, all the dentists appointments, all the fitness classes, all the therapies before the annual limit resets. I'll be the healthiest person this month!

project Book Cull continues

the hardest ones are books that were gifted to me. there are several that I haven't read past the first few pages yet I've lugged them thru several house moves. One book in this pile I've had for 20 years.

I don't lose stuff often but for days now I've been looking for my shoe (yes, singular). it was particularly annoying today since they were my good hiking boots and i wanted to trek up a sloping trail this morning for a view of the sun over the fog.

how did I lose a single shoe?!?!

think I'm gonna start the "americans leaving me alone at work" non-holiday by indulging in some rewatches. Winter Bones or The Lake House? badass girl orphan in a southern gothic setting or time travel romance that you're not supposed to be too logical about? it's a tough choice

this is my favourite week work wise. a few days of peace and quiet when the americans are off work 👌

Paring down my bookshelf is proving to be more difficult than expected. I have books I kept through multiple cross country moves, for close to 15 years (no one has to know that I haven't even read them). Anyhow, anyone wants my books lol

neighbourhood fb groups are wild. i live in the burbs, and the closure of the second local Starbucks generated quite the buzz. Three weeks later, I checked the group again: there was a 3rd thread about said starbucks closure, with 200+ replies!

10 minutes on twitter and I'm still as clueless as ever about pop culture (not that I mind or care) but also holy fuck, so they can openly say those things now? To paraphrase a line from Slow Horses: What's the stuff that's too vile for them to say out loud?

ok california please figure your sh*t out so we can have summer time all year round. I barely blinked since getting up and sitting down at my desk and it's already dark, no time to go outside for any natural light at all (I also start work early, in the dark)

after an intense week that felt like 2 non-stop days, I lasted 5s of Pluribus (it was the sound! couldn't stand anything jarring after the week I had). Put on something corny and mindless to veg out and was rewarded w/ one of my favorite songs at the end... I won't say which show and which song tho

Can't look at any glowing screen anymore. I'll be in front of the fireplace flipping the physical pages of my comfort book.

crashed a movie shoot this morning. as in, drove into a parking lot that was blocked off for a movie shoot. So... watch out for my car in your next show 😬

(no one was harmed in the process... ok, maybe there was a 🤏teeenny tiny traffic cone that was kind of invisible and kind of got run over)

Binged 4 seasons of Slow Horses over 4 weekends (and a long flight). Im saving s5 for when I need to watch tv next

Im like the worst type of audience. I dont watch tv much or often, and even when I really like a show, I can stop watching whenever(sorry Orphan Black, you lasted for a good 2 seasons)

you know how in Slow Horses when Roddy asked River for the real reason he was in Slough House and River was just about to tell him but changed his mind? (Roddy was there because no one could stand him.)

I felt that today. Sometimes I feel some people can't help being the way they are.

Read Ted Chiang's Liking What You See on the airplane. Man, this guy and the topics he chooses to write about!!! And the angles he goes at them 🤯

Also, Ted Chiang/Massive Attack is a very enjoyable combination.

A few days a month I feel more things much more intensely. Moderately moving stories make me tear up. A good piece of writing makes my heart almost burst with awe and emotions. A random reminder makes me miss people terribly.

PMS is wild. But I also kind of like these intense feelings.

Nice surprise on the walk today. It's not often they come so close to shore.

ok Slow Horses is also quite good. Best spy thriller I watched in recent years. (While we're at it, Black Bag was very meh. Black Doves, on the other hand, was entertaining, in a pulpy and overly stylized way.)

I make a point of not following US news. But now I actually have to care for the next few days. What's going on?!? Are airports working?

I know I've been online too much when I suddenly feel the urge to tell someone on the Internet they're wrong.
