This is a redux thread from the other site that's been expanded with additional reflections and info.

I purchased this C64 from a parent who'd decided to profit from the possessions of a child who'd left home. 1/13

This.
I only learned about it with YouTube.
Here, a gaming crash never happened.
It was not a global thing like many game historians like to portray it nowadays.

The author notes that the "performative reader" frequently mocked on social media is male.

Reading has declined in part because it became coded feminine. The obsession with STEM as the path to a career and insistence that the purpose of education is career training facilitated this.
Now Watch Me Read
“Performative reading” has gained a curious notoriety online. Is it a new way of calling people pretentious, or does it reflect a deprioritization of the written word?

It went up for sale a number of years ago. Don't know wht the final sale price was but the estimate was eye-watering enough.

BTW, if anyone can ever find me a copy of the scarf that Khan wears, that blue around the neck that fades to oil and shadow, LET ME KNOW.

Quite. I wasn't even aware till the 90s that the North American video game industry suffered a collapse. In the UK it was business as usual with consoles and computers on sale and games available for both. Unfortunately, the average hack doesn't know that much and their fact-checkers, even less.
Watched a NES retrospective by a (presumably) US YouTuber. Was pleasantly surprised that he took 5 mins to explain that the US experience wasn't global and most of the rest of the world was happily playing on home computers during the mid-80s "gaming crash". More attention to detail than the BBC.

One of my older cousins always had the latest table top games during the early 80s and among them was Astro Wars, which well and truly ignited my passion for video games.

In a world of endless Pong clones and variants, Astro Wars demonstrated that better offerings were available to play at home.

Blockbuster could've purchased #Netflix during the early 2000s for $50m and they reportedly laughed Netflix out of the door. Netflix is now poised to purchase Warner Bros. and as for Blockbuster, all that remains of them is an independently owned store in Oregon that's the last Blockbuster on Earth.

The BBC Micro is 44 years old today, Happy Birthday! However, many customers had to wait until early 1982 for delivery of theirs due to limited supply availability before Christmas. During its lifespan just over 1.5 million were sold - exact figures are not known. I still have my original one.

I'd love to buy the Babylon 5 Blu-ray but it's pricey and I'm broke at the mo. The DVDs have technical issues but I've managed to obtain the series in decent quality 4:3 SD and this will tide me over. ☺️

What a fantastic piece of TV Babylon 5 is. The storylines and themes are even more relevant now.

More experiments showing some interesting results .
It doesn't really take off marker, and does not take off adhesive at all, and behind the black tape it was its original yellow. You can really see the difference.

And the SNES front button bezel came out great, the darker grey plastics did not

A wonderful film that really succeeds in capturing the essence of a what makes a comic book adventure fun. It's a shame that the sequels were nixed. Perhaps the Oyelowo project will be green-lighted. 🙏

This is the goal that I've been working towards for many years and I'm almost at a stage where everyone around me is positive, warm and inspirational - and I feel all the better for it.

The negative are kept at arms length, which is exactly where they should be.

Embrace people who make you happy.🙂

I agree. Modern day planned obsolence is extremely anti consumer and only benefits the myth of infinite growth by trying to constantly squeeze money out of people.

Shit needs to stop. They can design products to last. They could go back to that if they weren't so fixated on endless profits.
