Carceral psychiatry is an extension of the carceral state. Cops & law (or lack thereof) included. That's what everyone needs to know about carceral psychiatry. The mad are designated subjects of state violence. Which our whole society enforces by how we're treated.
The social construction of disease especially mental disease and the social construction of medicine in the west are never more present than when you look within the walls of psychiatric care facilities

Power, domination, medicalization and criminalization are all part of the same symptomatology
Remember how Alexander Morris was held in a psych ward & they thought he was delusional when he said he was a member of the Four Tops & tortured him? It's not singular. Folks need to know, that is the system of carceral psychiatry. You can't argue your way out or prove you're sane. Lots get clapped.

They tried to kick drummer Eric Carr off the band's insurance while he was being treated for cancer. Carr's family had to sell his belongings to cover the medical debt.

I shouldn't be talking out of school, but if you ever find yourself in a similar case, you can still ask for a special character agreement post-hoc. Helps if your editor will back you.

Of course getting the agreement enforced is another kettle of fish but it's a start

I'm saying people were really shocked at that, but a psychiatric survivor would not be shocked by that. This has happened to thousands more people, it's happening right now, who aren't important soul music stars.
I hadn’t heard of this. The article I found says he was offered a $25 gift card as an apology??? What the actual fuck.

And in 2023 with Google at the fingertips of everyone, like, they couldn’t take a second to independently verify his ID. OMFG.

They ain't pronatalist, they're just racist. The global population is still increasing and is projected to reach 10 billion by 2050. In what sense is a 40% increase in the population of our species in 50 years "doomed" unless what they really mean is "why don't I have grandkids yet?!"

This, with one exception: Individuals who fixate on (White) birth rates to the extent that they seriously consider using coercive measures to mandate reproduction need to change their views both because that's disgusting and also a massive, counterproductive turn-off.
There is no progressive or feminist case for pronatalism because pronatalism involves changing women’s (and men’s) preferences and behaviour. If you care about birthrates, focus on changing society not individuals

Ariana and Cynthia both seem really frail and in need of mental health intervention. But the way femininity is racialized it's set up to deny Cynthia's frailty and hone in on Ariana. Both these ladies need help and support.
Why is this reporter obsessed with forcing Cynthia Erivo to agree that she's 'tough'? SIX times in 30 seconds. And then randomly 'protector'? Protecting who? Would he ascribe the word 'tough' repeatedly to Ariana Grande too? Or would she be 'delicate' and in *need* of protection? We know why.

Whole thread.

Poor families are priced out of going to movie theatres now. The theatre closest in distance to us charges $20 per ticket. That’s $80 for a family of 4 to watch an hour & half movie. Then add in drinks, snacks and that family is easily spending $200.
I mean, screw monopolies. But as someone who avoids movie theaters for disability reasons I actually agree that exclusivity periods for films are bad for consumer choice

Watching in theaters being a different experience is not an argument for exclusivity. It's the opposite.
