National Trust types! It's AGM time, do vote for the suggested candidates & block the right-wing, 'anti-woke', mysteriously-funded Restore Trust, who are against eg rewilding and discussing colonial history / LGBT+ heritage (last week my sister saw OOTW in an NT shop, would it be if they had power?)

🧵In March I wrote about how Trump's attacks on science & universities followed the authoritarian playbook & set out Qs as warning signs for escalation.

🚨 THESE ARE NOW HAPPENING

This 🧵is on how those warning sign Qs have been realised

The UK car industry contributes £22bn to the economy and employs c 35k people.

Universities contribute £265bn and employ nearly 400k, over 10x as much.

Yet he seems ok to let that sector implode.

3,300 years ago, these amazingly-preserved floral collars were created by sewing cornflowers and berries, on a bed of olive and persea leaves, onto a papyrus backing. They were probably worn during a feast as part of Tutankhamun’s burial ceremonies www.artsy.net/article/arts...

My designs get lots of publicity in magazines and online and it looks like I’m doing really well.
The reality is that it’s bloody hard work being self employed and it’s not getting any easier.

Have a look at what I do and repost. Thanks.

NEW: Elon Musk’s X has suspended accounts of Turkish opposition groups, suppressing footage of anti-government protests.

So, best we share all the footage we can here!

This was last night’s massive demo against Erdogan’s government, which follows the arrest of his rival Ekrem İmamoğlu.

My latest post is now out.

I show how Trump's attacks on science and universities are neither random nor new - they fit very precisely into the authoritarian playbook.

This means we can guess what might come next and prepare - and we must!

I can't believe things in US have got to the point where we are wondering if our most iconic & far-travelled cultural ambassadors *to the rest of the universe* might be abandoned.
They are humanity's achievement and legacy as a species, not just America's, in potential danger.

The tragedy of our universities in deep recession is that, for all the caveats, they produce exactly that connectivity, that sense of place, that attachment and even love that everyone is saying they want. You'll miss it all once it's gone.
Save the School of Music protest. It's a very bittersweet feeling watching these incredible musicians play. This is the talent we will be losing if Cardiff University go ahead with their shortsighted plans.
