The nights are drawing in, so I purchased a new winter hoodie.

Got round to this novella by @leemandelo.bsky.social yesterday. Halfway through now. It's a thoroughly fresh, sharply written and increasingly sinister slice of queer historical Appalachian horror.

I'm absorbed, unsettled and impressed.

Up early for a bracing walk along the seafront.

I remember when this was everything. 🎠💙

'Tis the season to be queer and freaky, and my latest collection has you covered.

"Full of fire and flare... Bennett's stories are told straight from the heart - an absolute must-read." Alison Littlewood

Well, I did not envision wading fully clothed up to my thighs in filthy water to get to work today.

But I managed it. 🫤

So much rain it's flooding into the bus.

I do not need this today.

We've had thunder and lightning here tonight, so it seemed like the perfect time to go see this beast.

More of a take than a faithful adaptation, it's visually sumptuous, breathlessly gothic and enjoyable on the whole. Elordi is the biggest revelation.

Frankly, I'm stunned that this discussion with a random man led to a suggestion that undermined the existence of systemic exclusion.

And by "stunned", I mean "not at all" and "blocking".

"...a representative list of leading writers in the New Weird or wave of modern, chiefly British, dark and strange fiction. An unsettling clutch of extremely well-written, sinister tales..."

In other news, I just peeled off a face mask so nourishing and intense, it's left me hoping it grows back in time for World Fantasy Con.

Caved into public pressure and got my hair done for World Fantasy.

I can see why Le Guin favoured the first edition cover. This isn't the one I read in school, but it's my personal fave.

Well that was embarrassing. Tripped on a lose paving stone outside the supermarket and went smack down on concrete.

Before I knew what was happening, two big lads grabbed me and pulled me to my feet.

Sevilla looking pretty in the sun. It's an endless summer.

I don't mind. Everything I'm doing now is what I used to dream of.

Wasn't sure what to expect from BOOTS, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a quirky and heartfelt "dramady" about a teen gay fish-out-of-water in a marine boot camp, of all things.
It isn't racy, but it's fun.

And the Pentagon hates it, so there's that.
