It can do little more than wave words around, unable to strike its fist on the table, and realizes far too late that Uncle Sam keeps his hands in his pockets — when he’s not also picking Europe’s pockets.

Europe is the main culprit — seen as weak by the United States, Russia, and China alike — and today lacks the means to back its own rhetoric.

The United Kingdom, determined but stuck in its dependence on US technologies, finds itself in an even more unstable balance since Brexit. Italy, Spain, and the other countries can do little on their own and are also dependent on the US.

Europe is waking up far too late from the lethargy brought on by the illusion of the end of the Cold War. Without money, France is already struggling to finance what it has.

It’s hard to put ourselves in the shoes of the Ukrainians, forced to choose between renunciation and a peace imposed by arms. But what kind of peace are we talking about?
