A 6 week old Torbie kitten sits on a wood floor in her kitten room. She is staring at a rather bedraggled bunch of feathers at the end of a pole toy hanging in front of her. She has been playing with this toy for a while now, and her and her expectant, focused look tells me she isn’t done playing.

These are my latest kitten fosters, Sydney (right) and Gayle (left). They are five weeks old.

They are being treated for worms and need to put on some weight but are otherwise healthy, playful, loving, and bold.

They are now in a room at our house with lots of toys and soft beds.

Two 5 year old Tortie kittens are in a cage in the kitten exam area of the shelter where it’s quiet. They came in Tuesday morning are being very chill. They’re sitting next to each other on a white blanket. One is laying down and one is sitting up. They were constipated, and are skinny so they were given fluids and wet food mixed with warm water. Both have bloated tummies because they have worms, and they are now on meds for that. This is the first time I’d met them, and they were simply curious. I don’t believe they’ll need much socialization. We’ll see. They are home now with us. They had a good night.

Mutts Coffee, a nearby cafe and roaster, is collecting pet food for local dogs and cats. The need is great, and donations are pouring in. Lots of furkids being helped by this one, small, good hearted business.
A panty filled with pet food. The coffee shop has now moved out chairs and put up a gorilla shelf to handle all the food coming in, and added plastic totes outside so folks can pull what they need. Dog paintings on the wall of Mutt’s Coffee. Cheerful, colorful paintings of a black and white Siberian Huskey, a black Lab, a white Great Pyrenees and a brown fluffy something, perhaps a Golden Doodle? One of the special menu items for dogs features Pupletts, omelets made with eggs, cheese and bacon.

Meet Tater Tot. He came to OR fr ASPCA in CA where infection cost him one eye. Sadly, the other also had to be removed by vets at CAT. Tater spent 8 weeks at our house recovering and adapting.

He’s the sweetest, bravest, smartest boy, and he now has a great home. #Caturday #kittens #BlindCats
A gorgeous 4 month old gold tabby kitten with a white front and white paws stands with his head raised as he listens to the sound of my voice telling him that I brought treats. His lost both his eyes to cataracts and infection when he was very young and has adapted brilliantly. We don’t know if he ever had much sight as his eyes had apparently been damaged for a long time. Normally, crowded and overwhelmed kill shelters would euthanize such a cat but he was rescued in time. The ASPC in LA did one surgery and CAT in OR did the other. He had excellent pain management and got lots of love and care at our place. He is playful, and courageous which tells me that beginning early on he was loved. He is super heathy otherwise so he probably had his mother’s milk, as well. It killed me not to keep him but he wouldn’t be safe indoors at our place because of the floor plan. His new family is taking great care of him and he is an indoor cat. He may someday get a catio. I hope so.

Our Queen and eldest rescue cat, Rose, a Tuxedo cat with green eyes, sits up on our dining room table. She is “helping” with the paperwork. Her tail is wrapped around her and she looks very calm and ladylike but at some point she may dip a paw in my coffee as a way of saying “It’s time for a break.”

I feel this, thank you. Our beloved dog, Leo, turns 9 tomorrow. Our 2 remaining cats (out of 5) are now 10 and 13.

Leo will be my last big dog as I won’t be able to handle that size in future. When these fur friends pass on, we will only adopt senior cats, and an adult or senior dog I can lift. 🧡

Went to CAT’s shelter to drop off Halloween cupcakes and cookies for the staff and volunteers working the holiday.

Home again. We don’t get trick or treaters on our mountain so we’ll be tucked up warm on this rainy night with some good books and the fur kids.
