Indeed there is a quote from the head of the refugee council who isn’t exactly anti refugee about how awful the tax companies are!

Think this measure is actually targeted at the taxi companies more than the asylum seekers.

I found some more charts on this topic. One in 20 houses in England is 5 or more bed rooms. Over 1 in 6 are 4 bed. 4 bed is now substantially more common than one bed.

I have shown you this chart before right? Minimum wage rises doesn’t really help poor households that much as most poor households are poor due to being unable to work. It’s almost middle class welfare now!

Progressive nature you say? Turns out the broadest shoulders are always found right next to the income tax thresholds.

This is true in longer timescales but university has. It expanded that much since 2014 has it? Also I think it’s non graduates and Neets driving this which is why you get this gender split but not completely sure

I like this ONS chart. This is what civilisational failure looks like imo. 50% of 25 year olds living with their parents and even the evolution since 2014 is disturbingly large.

With a side of this as I watch them removing the deflationary vat reduction on energy that the market had already priced in.

Here is how I am feeling about the budget on budget eve.

Due to the spousal exemption that’s really 10%. But it’s going much higher very soon as 14% id households are now above the limit and given the age structure of wealth it will soon be 20% of estates.
November 25, 2025 at 10:20 AM
It’s very weird to me how controversial this is when it has been a cornerstone of Christian social thought since forever and regularly voiced by prominent politicians. Here for example is Margaret thatcher.
November 25, 2025 at 10:17 AM
4% of estates is 8% of people because of the spousal exemption in practice. And it’s going much higher in practice because 14% of households currently have wealth above the threshold. Given the lifecycle distribution of wealth that 4% figure will be 20% of estates and 40% of people soon enough.

Who doesn’t love a bit of sooty????
November 24, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Think people just don’t really intuit what the household wealth distribution looks like. 20% of households > £1m!
November 24, 2025 at 9:27 AM
The effective threshold is 750k or so some 20% of all households > threshold, and in reality way more since the lifecycle effects are massive and wealth peaks around 65. Given how long many people live lots of households close to the margin pass on wealth 7 years before they die which is exempt.

Here is the cdc report detailing it www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nv... but the key figures are here. When US is measured the same was as European (via o-codes) it immediately drops 60% to be among the lowest in the developed world.
November 22, 2025 at 4:24 PM
What is most enraging to me is that this guardian article repeats the lie that US maternal mortality is among the worst in the developed world. This is straightforwardly untrue and known to be a result of measurement differences.

In 2004 interest rates were broadly similar to now so I really don’t understand people who think we can’t build enough to get price to income ratios back to 2005 levels. Obviously we can! And on the right hand chart many places are close to switching to dark blue at 12+ 😱😱😱
