Donnie, It was incredible to get to attend Garrett and the Mayor's keynote celebration of Donnie Beamer yesterday - jokes aside, it's very well deserved, and we all appreciate your efforts As we discussed, Undaunted, our robotic security company, recently took over security at the Ralph David House (see the Mayor's post here ). We're planning a celebration to thank the partners who made the project possible, including inviting Councilmember Bakhtari, Stryant, Atlanta Housing, Invest Atlanta, the Atlanta BeltLine, Partners for HOME, and APD. We'd love for you and Mayor Dickens to join us, and we're happy to plan around whatever time might work best for your team. Freeman Mr. Freeman, I just wanted to share a stop we had tonight that I thought you'd be interested in. Our mission control team detected intruders at 7:08 PM, and we deployed the robots and alerted DeKalb police in under a minute, before the trespassers reached any buildings. The robots tracked the suspects, spoke to and guided the arriving officers to secure the site without any damage or theft This is them sprinting away: (video) Unfortunately, they got away. If either the RTCC police had taken control of the robots, allowing arriving officers to stay outside and make the arrest, or if there were a DFR, this would have been an even better storv. June- Undaunted selftitled "Scrappy yet ambitious tech start up" which is backed by a VC (so not scrappy) seeks money to be given to them for a maker space (where they will likely own the IP of anything created there)
Aly, Thank you for offering to share this with Nick Foreste at Reed Smith. As I mentioned, Undaunted (an Atlanta Ventures studio company) is working with South Downtown to launch a scrappy but ambitious AT Hardware Hub for robotics and hardware startups. It's a short-term activation, meant to run around 1: months, as a testbed for a future, much larger makerspace in the neighborhood. South Downtown, Undaunted, and RF Labs are already committed to contributing some funding, and we're looking for a like-minded, scrappy, and ambitious partner to help sponsor the space and put their name on it. This is still early-stage: equipment is scoped, locations have been shortlisted, but the exact site and the budget are still fluid. There is a chance that the ATV makerspace again gets pushed in South Downtown's backlog. But we're moving quickly and would love to invite Nick and his team to meet with us and some of the South Downtown team next week, if Reed Smith would be interested in being the sponsor Donnie Beamer, Great seeing you last week and hope you are well. Exciting update for you as a hardware enthusiast: we are working with the South Downtown team to get a temporary makerspace built out for the next 12 months until another location becomes available for a larger ATV Hardware Hub. The goal would be to attract more hardware / robotics startups to the neighborhood. We are looking to get a couple of lead sponsors for the space (see below for email to law firms & GCs), and when we get the leads signed up, I would appreciate your help getting introduced to a few smaller probably $5k sponsors if you'd be willing. No ask right now, just wanted to keep you in the loop - so it is not a cold ask if / when I ask for introductions to potential sponsors. The makerspace in Castleberry Hill (https://www.masscollective.org/sponsors) has the following sponsors for your information: Arts Entertainment Atlanta, Gerry Hull, Nation of Makers, Fulton County Arts & Culture, Georgia Council for the Arts, Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs. April/May - Undaunted contacts city council persons for meetings with Bakhtari possibly using it @ Reynoldstown Commons for night time "security". Bakhtari chief of staff Nic Cappon calls the robot dogs "endlessly entertaining"
Courtney, It was great meeting you last night at such a great event. You and your team are doing meaningful work. "Crime is down, affordable housing is up" is a bold promise, and you all are clearly delivering on it. Your team has also been incredibly helpful to our robotic security startup. Donnie Beamer seems to be everywhere in the tech world and even helped us get priority at ATDC. And Josh Humphries has been great with the Reynoldstown Commons project. He helped us line up a demo to get Council Member Bakhtari's green light a couple of weeks ago, and we are very grateful. If you are ever near South Downtown or one of our active sites like 445 Cleveland, I would love to show you a quick demo of the robotic security guards.
