Got me thinking! I think I'm landing in "refuse the binary". I don't have a good definition of "sapience" that's distinct from "consciousness" and my therianness is deeply tied to an animist sense of everything being conscious. So I can understand a change to that consciousness, but not a loss.

Just wanted to mention I really appreciated this thread because reading the original post I was definitely working myself up into an "oh no I'm not valid" spiral and this has done a lot to diffuse it. Really appreciate your thoughtful, expansive, pluralistic POV
