Art Challenge of the week for me was to redraw one of my old art pieces since I found a bunch. Decided to rework a vaguely steampunk/post-apocalyptic thug I found in a real old sketch book.

Pretentious detail through concept art. Ranking Trace's happiness based on outfit, formal wear would be at the top of the list. It's the one that least represents their concept of who they are, so they get to dissolve into a fantasy where they are someone else entirely. They're normal and healthy :)

New week, new art challenge! Did some character design for a new OC named Trace.

An OC named Trace and a few separate outfits for them. A work outfit, in which they wear a business casual outfit with a white dress shirt and black dress pants. They have a half apron on with suspenders and a waste buckle and velveteen gloves. An Everyday outfit consisting of a knit gray sweater, flared fitted leggings, and some armor rings on their thumb and index finger that goes up to their wrist. Their Pajamas consist of a giant zip up hoodie for fictional band FUGITIVEBLOWTORCHSUCCUBUS. Under it, they only wear fleece lined tights. And finally, their formal wear which has the same pants and shoes as their work outfit, but the vest and dress shirt is replaced with a high collar button up blazer and a asymmetrical capelet. The Capelet has a simple floral pattern on it.

Reading at article and good god the quote: "Not to mention that it’s already becoming common sense in the creative world to rely on the power of AI to boost work efficiency." is infuriating on its own but it's followed up by this paragraph which makes me want to scream:

Another art challenge sketch! I haven't mentioned (or done much of anything really) with Velvet in a long time, but it was good to draw them again.

two different depictions of the same character (Velvet Rene, a cat person with two sets of cat ears, human ears and two tails.) One of them is a sketch of Velvet as a super villain, clad in armor wearing a large cape and having branded the armor with the letter V on the chest. They have a laser eye and cover up their cat ears with metal horns. They have a long mantis claw like blade attached to their left arm. The text next to them reads: "Velvet Venomous: Villain Ending Velvet: When confronted with the idea of being forgotten, they could never end up reconciling with that fact. They turned to evil. "Evil is self replicating. It needs no reason to exist. It can only get so good, but it can always get worse." is a saying they started to internalize. To be evil is thoughtless, but sticks with the world far easier than goodness. And they intend to never be forgotten. They dress in stark shining armor and use the name of Velvet Venomous to build an empire of evil in their name. The second sketch is of a hero Velvet. They use their real name (Velvet Rene) as a hero and are much more casual with how they dress wearing only a cape, boots, jumpsuit, gloves and a tactical belt. The text next to this sketch reads: Velvet Rene: Hero Ending Velvet: Eventually coming to terms with the abstract pointlessness of existence, they took a few months to themself. It is in those months they came to the conclusion that all the memories in the world will never chance the outcome in the end. They will be forgotten and that is okay. All their mistakes and accomplishments going with them, they thought "Why not have fun with what I have now and make a fool of myself?" They didn't bother creating a super hero name because even as a hero, they are still just themself."

A concept for a boss weapon dropped by "The Ephemera of Disciple Trance" The weapon is a bunch of skulls fused together in the shape of a gauntlet with claws. The item reads: "Ephemera of Disciple Trance The solidified soul residue of a special disciple. Each time a soul dies, the corruption of Death begins to coagulate into Ephemera. If left alone, a speck of dust may be all that is left over. But should a soul be revived only to die again, the Death calcifies more, creating larger pockets of Ephemera. Such a large chunk of Ephemera are usually reserved for monarchs that rule over kingdoms for thousands of years. When the Ephemera get to be so pronounced, one can see the shape the soul took in life. Why a simple disciple's took the shape of clawed gauntlets to rend flesh from bone, and why it was able to coagulate as much as it did in the first place, is a mystery lost to time."

And one more for a better full body. Leggings that go into boot suspenders/a belt is perhaps the most perplexing design decision I've made with this outfit, but it's a vibe.
