it´s always so obvious when the piece exist just for money or because someone wanted or needed the thing to exist for another reason - to say something, to be horny, to be passionate, to have fun, to piss someone off, to be a little freak.
I think the first priority always has to be making something that's genuinely worth peoples' time and money. Not just something that's capable of taking peoples' time and money.

Again nothing against dopamine loops in games or viral success or w/e, it's just... idk.

Every prompt to chatbot software is “generate me some text.” If it generated you some text, it performed its function correctly. It never lies, it never wants anything, it’s text generating software that generates text.
Not wanting to disappoint you so much that it lies is the last quality I want in a computer.

If you consider random NPC dialogue "boring and unimportant" and you're okay with relegating that to gen AI, frankly I can't trust that the rest of your narrative is any good either.
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Find out it uses OpenAI to write "non-important NPC dialogue".

Santa Ragione are a well-known studio, covered by a great many mainstream outlets. Their latest game will not be releasing on Steam for... reasons? Steam won't tell them why, won't tell them what needs fixing, and won't communicate in general.

Every other store will carry it. Just not Steam.
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

Are you someone who claims to be a “trans ally”?

Cool! Here’s your new test to see if you actually are a trans ally for real or just for “social media clout.”

This is an odd situation, and genuinely one worth reading about if you actually Do care about games as art

Because is there challenging, troubling imagery in the game? Sure, yes

Is any of it like- porn or whatever? No. Not even remotely. But this is why rulings against porn media hurt everyone.

If they are being honest? I cannot emphasize enough what a terrible idea it is to use "the machine that tricks people" to generate "placeholder material" you intend to replace. You are just making everyone else's job harder by effectively hiding what needs to be replaced

No genAI at Kaizen Game Works either, in Promise Mascot Agency or Paradise Killer.

All pure, human nonsense and love.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

There is no AI in Earth Must Die.

FULL DISCLOSURE in desperation, in my darkest hour, I did use CoPilot to try and fix a bug, but the code it spewed out was such absolute dogshit I couldn't have implemented it if I wanted to.

to beat a dead and boring horse: Pantaloon won't sign/work with any studio using gen-AI - a philosophy reflected at a contractual level.

That said, all of the best and most interesting pitches we receive never go near it anyway. Go figure.

And one other thing: we’re being told that AI is the only way to make games cheaper and faster, to pull us from this precipice of production nightmares the industry has found itself in. That it’s necessary.

We put out roughly 3 motherfucking games a year, not touching the stuff.
Skill issue.

We don't use generative AI at either Minor Key Games or Question. Partly on principle, and partly because we're really good at what we do.
