In more mundane news, today I completed a quest akin to Aeneas finding the golden bough: I finally, after much searching, found one nail artist in my area who does dip nails without using UV light (which I don’t want on my skin). I am very pleased with the result.

Dr Knight, my wonderful husband, came home tonight with roses for me. There is no special occasion; he said he is just happy to see me.

I am very lucky to have him.

I and my husband celebrated Valentine’s Day early, in London, by going to the National Gallery and to see some paintings by Paul Delaroche and Leonardo Da Vinci.

A friend of my husband’s who came to our wedding painted a picture of us. 😭❤️

It’s the difference between my English husband’s “Mary and Colin out on a Yorkshire jaunt” flush and my undead complexion. Some people are suited for a healthy, ruddy blush; personally, I’d look like a vampire who’s been sprayed with holy water and developed a skin rash.

This is a post of appreciation for my husband, Dr Knight. He is the kindest English gentleman I have ever known, he makes me feel loved every single day, and he is always appreciative of my Italian cuisine. I am one of the luckiest women in the world.

A few days ago I wrote a blog post about plot and immersive descriptions, and why a good novel should have a balance of both. It’s free to read. 😊

In love with my new mother-of-pearl nails, which my Chinese nail artist tells me are currently very popular in Asia.

I am reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. It’s a fictionalisation of the story of Dinah from the Book of Genesis. It has really good reviews, and although I was skeptical at first, so far it has lived up to the hype.

I just wrote a (very short, very quick) blog post on descriptive writing, sharing one easy exercise you can practice to improve your fiction writing skills. It’s free to read. Link in bio. 😊

My husband said, “What I remember the most from the day is all the lace in your dress, and your smile. I will never forget how you smiled the day you became my wife.”

One of the happiest days of my life.

I wish I could talk to my moody twelve-year-old self and tell her, “One day you will get married to the love of your life in the dress of your dreams and celebrate in a fairy tale manor house in Norfolk. Be patient. Life can be good.”

It’s been a difficult year and I think we deserve a Frog and Toad Christmas.

This is one of my favourite pictures from my wedding. It’s harder than you’d think to lift someone without disarranging a wedding dress like that!

Deep in the mist-shrouded Norfolk countryside, this October yours truly became Mrs Knight.

It is also in the online version of the Telegraph. 😊
