For weeks I’ve been trying to memorize the difference between the Dutch words “geloven” (to believe) and “beloven” (to promise). No luck.

Asked ChatGPT for help. It pointed out that geloven is cognate to “glauben” in German, a language it knows I speak. I hadn’t clocked that. Problem solved.

It's also much less of a dick. I was trying to engage with you on the merits of the argument, I guess that's a mistake I can rectify now!

ChatGPT could give a much more cogent and interesting rebuttal to what I said than this.

I certainly agree from the point of view of attracting readership - if I am reading a person I want their words, not what they got from ChatGPT. I just took your post to be a dismissal of ChaGPT output entirely.

The insinuation that you literally are not a “grown adult” if you don’t automatically dismiss ChatGPT output as “illegitimate” is pretty wild.

ChatGPT can give very good, interesting, and correct answers to things, so I don’t see why it should be automatically de-legitimized. I’m frustrated by people who see LLMs as akin to radiation poisoning!
