September 5 and 6, 2025 was the weekend of the first Illinois Partners in Policymaking Alumni Event. Graduates from classes 1-6 gathered in Bloomington, Normal, IL to bond, share updates, and collaborate. This is a group photo with all attendees.

For the first year ever, Crystal Lake will be hosting a Disability Pride Event. The idea behind the event came from a Class Five Illinois Partners in Policymaking Graduate. The event is on July 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Crystal Lake, Illinois.

My name is Ryan. I just started a job at Sox Park. I learned how to take public transit to my job. Medicine and staff support me at home. My job coach helps me. If Medicaid is cut, I would be concerned about my health, not having medication or staff support. #ProtectMedicaid #EnvisionForFreedom

MEDICAID IS OUR DISABILITY SYSTEM “My wheelchair and communication device are only possible because of Medicaid. They give me my voice and my freedom.” Cami, Self-Advocate WHAT MEDICAID COVERS FOR CAMI Nursing, personal assistance, day programs and group homes that support community living. Essential items not covered by insurance, (equipment for daily living, mobility, and communication) Healthcare Services for children and adults with disabilities CAMI’S MEDICAID STORY Medicaid is very important to me and my family. My name is Cami Smith, and I am a woman with cerebral palsy living in a Community Integrated Living Arrangement. Without Medicaid Funding, I wouldn’t be able to get a communication device, like my Dynavox, which helps me to communicate. Additionally, I wouldn’t have an electric wheelchair to get around. If funding were cut, I also wouldn’t have the crucial daily assistance I rely on. Imagine being in my situation – what would you do if your funding was cut? I would never want to go to a nursing home.
