My student's paper on enzymatic remodelling to generate anionic glycan arrays has just been published online in @jbiolchem! Various recombinant glycosyl- or sulphotransferases were employed to prepare glycan motifs tested with various lectins. #glycotime

Today visited Fudan University, Shanghai, and gave a talk as a guest of Prof. Cao (known, e.g., for pGlyco3). Nice interactions, discussion and lunch! Also viewed the campus MS facility.

Much of my working time yesterday was spent „chunking“ worms.
First managing to pour 39 plates from 1L NGM-agar (on Wednesday), plating a bit of E. coli OP50 (on Thursday) and finding worms on old plates, cutting the relevant pieces of agar out & transferring to a new plate (Friday).

Glycoproteomics of a lobster: My explanation would be that a Man2GlcNAc2Fuc2 is on the Asn, not that there's some adventurous O-glycan.

My last opera visit of the season @WrStaatsoper
Tchaikovsky‘s Pique Dame (Пиковая дама, Queen of Spades) with Anna Netrebko and (separated husband) Yusif Eyvazov in the main two roles. Whatever one thinks of some aspects of the production, an exciting performance! The conductor was a „stand-in“!

We experienced the end of the world at the Wiener Staatsoper tonight - Wagner‘s Götterdämmerung! Andreas Schager is perhaps almost the best Siegfried I’ve ever heard!
