React has always run on one JS thread. But what if it had two? @hux.pro, Ziqi Zhen, and Haoyang Wang (@bytedance.bsky.social) are here to show what that world looks like, and why it’s not just imagination.

Yesterday was a big day! Lynx is a newly open-sourced JS app platform for developing high-performance native mobile & web apps 🎉
✨ Runs a new JS engine: PrimJS
✋ Main thread is non-blocking
🧵Most JS runs on a background thread
✅ Made by ByteDance, used in TikTok apps

🤯 ByteDance just announced Lynx, their native cross-platform technology
Used extensively in their apps, including TikTok!
With first-class React bindings, it's serious competitor to React Native
The architectural choices are really interesting, with a dual-thread model

Every now and then, I revisit @infrequently.org’s blog, and it’s always a moment of clarity. Despite his clashes with JS fwks, notably React, which I’ve been deeply involved with, he remains one of the most influential figures in how I understand the web and platform economics for nearly a decade.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how this generation of websites is embracing motion (via Lottie, Motion, etc.) and visual effects like blurring, gradients, and glow? The web has finally caught up the level of Flash...from 20 yrs ago. It's not too late though!

I want to dedicate my first bsky to appreciating the unique form factor of tech talks: I still find them the single best way to explain and convey ideas—better than code, documents, videos, or any single medium alone. They’re the complete package, like the feature films of the tech world.
